The 5 best
Klaviyo alternatives

Klaviyo's profile-based pricing scales steeply once you store every browse and abandon event, and the depth of its data model is overkill — and lock-in — for non-Shopify stores or simpler newsletter senders.

Our take

Klaviyo's pricing trap isn't the headline number — it's the profile model. Every browse, add-to-cart, and viewed-product event creates or updates a profile, and your bill scales with profile count, not engaged subscribers. Stores with high traffic and low conversion end up paying for anonymous browsers. Add SMS credits, reviews, and the CDP and the bill stops being competitive with Omnisend or Drip. The honest test: open your Klaviyo bill, divide by the number of contacts you actually emailed last month, and compare to Omnisend's published rate. If it's more than ~1.5x, you're paying for data depth you're not using.

Switching cost

Profile and list export is clean via CSV or API. The work is rebuilding flows — abandon cart, browse abandon, post-purchase, win-back — and reconnecting your store's product feed. Budget 1–2 days for a typical Shopify store moving to Omnisend or Drip (they ship Klaviyo flow templates), longer for stores with custom event-driven segments. SMS keywords and short codes do NOT port — you'll need to re-provision and remind subscribers to re-opt-in.

What Klaviyo does

Ecommerce-focused email and SMS marketing platform built around Shopify-style customer data.

Our shortlist

  1. 1

    Omnisend

Klaviyo's closest ecommerce rival with email, SMS, and push in one bill.

    Top pickVisit

    Best for

Shopify and WooCommerce stores under ~50k contacts that want pre-built ecommerce flows without Klaviyo's price curve.

    Pricing

Free up to 250 contacts / 500 emails. Standard from $16/mo, Pro (unlimited email + SMS credits) from $59/mo.

    Pros

    • Pre-built abandoned cart, browse abandon, and post-purchase flows out of the box
    • Bundled SMS and web push in the same plan — no separate add-on
    • Pricing is consistently 20–40% under Klaviyo at the same contact count

    Trade-offs

    • Segmentation is less granular than Klaviyo's predictive analytics
    • Reporting is simpler — fine for SMB, thin for data teams
  2. 2

    Brevo

    Send-based email + SMS + WhatsApp with a built-in CRM.

    Best for

Stores with large dormant lists where you'd rather pay per send than per stored profile.

    Pricing

    Free 300 emails/day, unlimited contacts. Starter $9/mo for 5k sends, Business $18/mo.

    Pros

    • Unlimited contacts on every tier — duplicates and inactive profiles are free
    • Includes transactional email API (Sendinblue heritage) at no extra cost
    • Native WhatsApp and SMS channels included

    Trade-offs

    • Ecommerce automations less polished than Klaviyo or Omnisend
    • Daily send cap on the free plan can stall larger campaigns
  3. 3

    MailerLite

Clean, affordable email with light ecommerce — closest like-for-like for non-Shopify stores.

    Best for

DTC brands and creators under 50k subscribers who don't need Klaviyo's deep event model.

    Pricing

Free up to 1,000 subscribers / 12k sends. Growing Business from $9/mo, Advanced from $18/mo.

    Pros

    • Half the bill of Klaviyo at most contact tiers
    • Editor and templates are genuinely the best in SMB email
    • Native Shopify, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce integrations

    Trade-offs

    • Predictive analytics and complex segmentation can't match Klaviyo
    • Manual account approval delay (24–48h) catches new accounts off guard
  4. 4

    Drip

Ecommerce CRM and email automation that targets the same buyer as Klaviyo.

    Best for

Mid-market ecommerce teams that want Klaviyo-style flows with simpler pricing.

    Pricing

From $39/mo for 2,500 contacts; scales with contact count. 14-day free trial.

    Pros

    • Visual workflow builder rivals Klaviyo's
    • Flat contact-based pricing without Klaviyo's add-on stack
    • Strong Shopify and WooCommerce data sync

    Trade-offs

    • Pricing climbs quickly past 25k contacts — re-evaluate at scale
    • SMS requires a third-party integration; not bundled
  5. 5

    GetResponse

Email, automation, webinars, and ecommerce funnels in a single suite.

    Best for

Stores and course sellers who want abandoned-cart plus webinars and landing pages in one bill.

    Pricing

Free up to 500 contacts. Email Marketing from $19/mo. Ecommerce Marketing $119/mo.

    Pros

    • Bundled webinars and funnels are rare at this price point
    • Native Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento ecommerce flows
    • AI email generator is genuinely usable

    Trade-offs

    • Interface feels cluttered because of all the bundled tools
    • Pure email value is weaker than Brevo or MailerLite

More on Klaviyo

Themes from real users

What buyers actually say about Klaviyo

Paraphrased from public reviews on G2, Reddit, and Hacker News. Not vendor copy.

  • Profile-based pricing is the most cited cancellation reason on G2 and Reddit.
  • Anonymous browse and add-to-cart events inflate profile counts on high-traffic stores.
  • SMS, reviews, and CDP add-ons make total cost hard to predict month-to-month.
  • Predictive analytics and segmentation are genuinely best-in-class — but most teams use a fraction of them.
  • Non-Shopify stores feel like second-class citizens; integrations outside Shopify are thinner.
  • Support quality has slipped as the company scaled post-IPO.
