The 3 best
QuickBooks alternatives

Aggressive price hikes and a clunky UI push businesses to newer cloud tools.

Reviewed by Switchpoint Editors ·

Our take

The price hikes have outpaced the feature gains for three years running. If you have an accountant, the switching conversation starts with them — most won't move. If you're choosing fresh, Xero is straightforwardly better software. QuickBooks only wins when 'my accountant uses it' is non-negotiable.

Switching cost

QBO → Xero has paid migration services that handle 2 years of history cleanly. DIY is 1-2 weeks for a typical SMB. Painful parts are payroll, locked prior periods, and 1099 history — confirm your migration covers all three.

What buyers actually say about QuickBooks

Paraphrased from public reviews on G2, Reddit, and Hacker News. Not vendor copy.

  • Annual price hikes consistently outpace inflation.
  • UI feels dated next to Xero and FreshBooks.
  • Accountant lock-in is the genuine moat in the US.
  • Payroll add-on is mature; integrated time-tracking is weaker.
  • Customer support quality varies wildly by tier.
