Our take

The 'leave Figma' conversation is almost entirely about Adobe risk, not product gaps. Penpot is good enough to be a contingency plan; it isn't yet good enough to be a daily driver for a real team. If you're starting fresh in 2026 and care about open formats, Penpot is a legitimate choice. Otherwise, stay.

Switching cost

Figma files don't export to a usable open format. Penpot has an importer but loses Auto Layout fidelity and most plugins. A real migration is a 1-2 month re-create-as-you-go project, not a button click.
